BREAKING: COURT RULES DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY RELEASE UVALDE COURT RECORDS

Senator Gutierrez comments on court ruling that Texas DPS release records on Uvalde shooting.

For Immediate Release: November 30, 2024

TEXAS – Texas Senator Roland Gutierrez issued a statement on today’s ruling that the Texas Department of Public Safety must release documents related to the Uvalde massacre, as reported by KXAN

“The Texas cover-up on Uvalde must stop. That’s what today’s court ruling means.

“This rogue agency and Governor Abbott cannot keep us in the dark anymore. It is time for these families and the people of Texas to have the justice, transparency, and accountability they deserve.

“I will never forget the screams of grieving parents that day. And I will never forgive Texas officials who withheld even the most basic information from these Uvalde families and the Texans they were sworn to protect and serve.

“The truth is Texas Republicans’ loose gun laws put those kids in danger in the first place and every system meant to keep people safe failed. This was about the neglect of rural Texas, and the cowardice of Texas politicians to stand up to the gun lobby.

“The abject failure on May 24, 2022 is a permanent stain on the State of Texas and the Department of Public Safety. As teachers and little children bled out, leadership failed, communication broke down, and law enforcement cowered before the power of an AR-15 in the hands of a killer. The nation watched in horror, and Governor Greg Abbott and Director Steve McCraw launched a disinformation campaign to cover-up their failures.

“I am grateful to those journalists who have been relentless in uncovering the truth of what happened in this small town. They sought the truth and sued the government for withholding it.”
