GUTIERREZ ACCEPTS FIRST PRIMARY DEBATE

Nexstar Media Group Statewide Primetime Debate Held Ahead of the March Primary

For Immediate Release: January 8, 2024

TEXAS – U.S. Senate candidate and State Senator Roland Gutierrez will attend the Nexstar Debate next month.

“Democracy is about choices – the choices of regular people, not D.C. elites or billionaire donors. Far too often, politicians who seek great power avoid the tough questions, hide behind generic rhetoric, and rely on big money to grant them public office. Voters need to decide who is ready to defeat Senator Ted Cruz, not money,” said Sam Robles, spokesperson for Roland Gutierrez campaign. “The first step to earning people’s trust and vote, is showing up. For months, Roland Gutierrez has been barnstorming Texas, meeting with primary voters, engaging with local parties, unions, and progressive organizations, and talking about the issues that matter to most of us.”

“We are pleased to accept Nexstar’s invitation for a statewide televised debate. Televised primary debates are an important way for Texas voters to hear the contrast between the candidates, and with so much at stake, Texans deserve a robust debate. As the race to defeat Senator Ted Cruz builds momentum, it’s crucial for voters to have a comprehensive understanding of each candidate’s position on key issues. That is why we are also considering and will soon announce a series of additional media debates and important forums that the Roland Gutierrez campaign has agreed to attend.”

The debate is scheduled for Friday, February 9th at KXAN TX studio in Austin.

The debate will be broadcast live from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM CT. The debate will be carried on Nexstar stations in Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Harlingen, El Paso, Midland-Odessa, Tyler, Waco, Abilene, San Angelo, Texarkana/Shreveport, Wichita Falls, Lubbock, and Amarillo.

In 2020, Nexstar, via KXAN, hosted a statewide platform for Senate candidates MJ Hegar and Royce West to debate the issues.
