Attorney, State Senator, Husband and Father Roland Gutierrez Announces Candidacy To Unseat Senator Ted Cruz

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – Today, Democratic Texas Senator Roland Gutierrez announced his candidacy for United States Senate.

In Spanish and English language announcement videos, Senator Roland Gutierrez promises to fight back against the systems that have left so many Texans behind and highlights the impact he, and so many Texans faced, in the wake of the Uvalde tragedy, and vows to turn that frustration into action.
An outspoken advocate who has never backed down from a fight, Senator Gutierrez called out the failings of Texas’ politicians, specifically Senator Ted Cruz, who abandoned Texans in a winter storm where 800 people died.

In the video, Senator Gutierrez describes the root of his drive in public service: his parents, who immigrated to the United States in search of the American Dream, and instilled in him that “if you work hard for this country, then this country will work for you.”
“I’m running against Ted Cruz because everything that we’ve seen in this state has been nothing but taking care of rich people while the poor people, the working class, get screwed over,” Senator Roland Gutierrez says in the video.
The video honors Uvalde victims and features their families, who have in-turn become “family” to Gutierrez in the year since the massacre, joining the Senator to advocate for common sense gun safety solutions at the Texas Capitol, week after week, in this year’s legislative session.
“We saw first-hand how our leaders only cared about maintaining power. What happened in Uvalde wasn’t just about guns, it was about neglect. The neglect of rural Texas. The neglect of the systems in this state that are supposed to keep us safe.”

About Roland Gutierrez
Roland is a Texas State Senator that fights for working families from San Antonio to Uvalde and the Texas Border. Prior to his time in the Senate, Gutierrez was a small business owner, City Councilman, a State House Representative, and currently works as an attorney.
