Uvalde Senator Gutierrez Demands Accountability for 21 Massacred
For Immediate Release: February 23, 2024
UVALDE, TEXAS – As reported by KVUE, a grand jury has issued court orders for law enforcement officers involved in the failed response to the 2022 Robb Elementary School massacre in Uvalde, Texas.
“There is no justice for the Uvalde victims or their families if we do not bring charges against Texas DPS officers who failed to do their duty on that day. We need to have accountability from the troopers who were too scared to do their jobs, and the captains and directors that told them not to enter that classroom. There was cowardice at every level,” said Uvalde State Senator Roland Gutierrez.
“We cannot forget that Uvalde happened because of the loose gun laws in our state that allowed this young person to buy a weapon of war and carry out the brutal massacre of these 21 beautiful souls. Our state is broken, and to fix it we must have justice. We have to keep these weapons out of the hands of dangerous people and we have to get rid of cowardly politicians like Ted Cruz, who kiss up to the gun lobby while ignoring the pain of his constituents.
“I am demanding accountability and make no mistake, there will be no justice until every single person responsible for the abject failure in Uvalde faces the consequences.”
