Gutierrez: “We are drowning women and children at the border, nothing more.”
For Immediate Release: September 12, 2023
EAGLE PASS, TX – Today Senator Roland Gutierrez issued a statement on reports that Operation Lone Star would resume operations in Eagle Pass’ Shelby Park, reversing a previous rescindment of an affidavit ordering Operation Lone Star officials out of the public park.
“Operation Lone Star is cruel and pointless political theater. Ted Cruz’s favorite state program is a waste of billions of taxpayer dollars on failed stunts. Nothing is happening here that makes Texas safer. What these people are doing is drowning women and children at the border. That’s it,” Senator Gutierrez declared. “Instead of focusing on real immigration reform, Ted Cruz chooses to greenlight cruelty and inhumanity.”
By failing to condemn these acts, Cruz has told us that he is fine with seizing people’s private property and now their public property. They are fine with buoys and concertina wire littering the banks of the Rio Grande and making life worse for locals, in their effort to enforce cruelty at the border. $10 billion in taxpayer dollars has gone towards tearing families apart, making pregnant women crawl through razor wire, and pushing migrant toddlers into the deep waters of the river.
“They have spent taxpayers’ hard-earned money just to drown women and children in the deep water. That’s it. We are paying for cruelty and inhumanity because Ted Cruz refuses to discuss real and meaningful solutions on immigration.”
