Underdog Senate Contender Gains Key Backing As Early Voting Starts Tuesday
For Immediate Release: February 19, 2024
TEXAS – The Roland Gutierrez Campaign announced endorsements from CONGRESSWOMAN SYLVIA GARCIA, LUPE VOTES, and THE AUSTIN CHRONICLE.
“I saw Senator Gutierrez fight for the victims and families in Uvalde, and that is the fight he is going to bring to the United States Senate,” said Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia, of Houston. “Roland is ready to fight for hard working Texas families against Ted Cruz’s broken system that leaves us all behind.
“Roland is a champion for womens’ reproductive rights, keeping our communities safe from gun violence, and providing solutions at our border with Mexico. I take great pride in supporting Roland Gutierrez to be our next U.S. Senator from Texas.”
Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia is the first Latina ever to represent the Texas 29th Congressional district and one of the first two Latinas to represent the State of Texas in the U.S. Congress.
“From Brownsville, to Pharr, to Rio Grande City of the current political landscape, and the politicians who place party over people, the pueblo says ‘enough is enough,’” said LUPE Votes Director of Civic Engagement Michael Mireles. “The Rio Grande Valley deserves representatives who work hard to protect our families and communities.”
A sibling organization of La Unión del Pueblo Entero, LUPE Votes uses electoral and political organizing to win justice for working families in the Rio Grande Valley.
“Roland Gutierrez moved us at our endorsement meeting with his bitter remembrance of seeing photographs of the 19 children and two teachers who were massacred in Uvalde, the small Southwest Texas city he represents in the state Senate,” wrote the Austin Chronicle Editorial Board, adding that Gutierrez “lives on and represents 400 miles of the Texas-Mexico border and can help solve the crisis there.”
The Austin Chronicle joins five dozen officials, progressive organizations, and community leaders in the state of Texas are backing Senator Roland Gutierrez, including several announced earlier this month:
