ROLAND GUTIERREZ CAMPAIGN CONDEMNS ANTI-BLACK RHETORIC IN DAILY BEAST HEADLINE

Daily Beast Reporting Misaligned with Audio Recording

For Immediate Release: February 1, 2024

TEXAS – Today, Roland Gutierrez, Uvalde State Senator and candidate for U.S. Senate released a statement regarding an anti-Black headline in a Daily Beast article that ran on February 1st.

“Fringe media outlets want to create chaos and pit Black and brown voters against each other. Texas is growing more diverse everyday. Black voter organizing efforts in our big cities, east Texas, and across the state will be core to a Democratic win statewide,” said Roland Gutierrez. “Texas is broken and it is Republicans who are responsible for the failed systems that have left so many behind – we can fix this state by focusing on the real problems of today – with a progressive multiracial agenda led by Black, brown, and white voters.”

The recording published on The Daily Beast’s website does not align with the article’s sensationalistic headline and author Reese Gorman’s writing does not back up the headline’s claims.

“Racial division is what Ted Cruz wants,” said Campaign Manager Sam Robles. “The Roland Gutierrez Campaign demands the Daily Beast change the inflammatory headline of their article and apologize to their audience for continuing to stoke the flames of racism in order to get more clicks on their articles.”
