Senator Roland Gutierrez on Lakewood Church Spanish Service Shooter
For Immediate Release: February 11, 2024
HOUSTON, TEXAS – U.S. Senate candidate Roland Gutierrez issued a statement on the Lakewood Church shooting during Spanish-language services.
“Today in America and all across Texas, families just want to go to church and watch the big game tonight. But once again, this nation has to deal with the gruesome and tragic results of a nation where guns are readily available to those intent on doing harm to others, and often themselves. No place of worship, or community, or shared public space is safe when cowardly politicians choose the gun lobby over the safety of Texans.
“Ted Cruz and Texas Republicans say nothing can be done. They shrug their shoulders and proclaim that evil exists, and we must simply brace for the funerals. I refuse to accept that.
“We don’t have to live like this – anxiety and fear everyday – we don’t need to see yet another set of children in caskets. We have to vote for change and we have to demand that every level of government from city hall to the Legislature, Congress to the White House do something now.
“My heart is with the community of Houston and I am grateful to the city’s leadership and first responders.”
