TEXAS – Roland Gutierrez, Texas State Senator of Uvalde and candidate for the U.S. Senate, issued a statement after news reports of Texas Department of Public Safety investigation into its own actions found “no wrongdoing” in mistreatment of migrants at the Texas-Mexico border.
“Operation Lone Star is a cruel and inhumane program that has punished migrants and Texas troopers to advance Republican airtime on Fox News. This is a sham investigation by a department that continues to wash its hands of any wrongdoing when public safety failures impact the state.
“As we saw in Uvalde, Texas DPS cannot be trusted to investigate itself. Multiple accounts from whistleblowers have documented the horrendous killing of women and children, and reported it at great risk to their careers. We need to believe what these officers are telling us.
“Make no mistake, what is happening here is killing women and children at the border, separating families, and throwing asylum-seekers into legal limbo while putting Texans serving in DPS in grim housing and working conditions. We are wasting massive amounts of Texas taxpayer money just to hurt people looking to come here to work hard for a better life.
“I am once again calling on the Department of Justice to investigate the Texas Department of Public Safety for their actions at the border, and take action against all perpetrators so that we can finally have truth, transparency, and stop the cruelty once and for all.”
