GOP Eyes More Abortion Restrictions on 51st Anniversary of Roe
For Immediate Release: January 22, 2024
TEXAS – Today, Roland Gutierrez, U.S. Senate Candidate and State Senator, released a statement on what would have marked the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade. The U.S. The Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe and take away the federal constitutional right to abortion has created a national health crisis as Texas and 20 other states have moved to ban or restrict some or all abortions.
“I will fight to restore reproductive rights in the U.S. Senate. I am the only candidate in the race that will commit to codifying Roe, ending the filibuster, and expand the Supreme Court,” said Roland Gutierrez, candidate for the U.S. Senate. “Anti-abortion politicians like Ted Cruz are continuing the attack on womens’ rights. Since abortion access in Texas has been restricted, our maternal mortality rates have skyrocketed. We are risking the lives and wellbeing of mothers and children because Republicans choose to get in between a woman and her doctor. Access to abortion is healthcare, and it is a right.”
Last Thursday, just before the government funding deadline, the House passed two bills: the so-called Pregnant Students Rights Act and Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act – bad, thinly veiled Republican anti-abortion bills that serve to further erode abortion access in this country.
